PLAA artists have paintings accepted into Western Federation of Watercolor Societies 40th Annual Exhibition, hosted by the West Texas Watercolor Society.  Margy West's painting, "Behind my Back They Talk", and Julie Anderson's painting, "Breakfast" were juried into this prestigious exhibit by nationally known watercolor artist Linda Baker.  In addition, Julie's painting was awarded the Richard "Chip" Peterson cash award.  The exhibition, displayed at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, will be open until July 15th. 

Congratulations to PLAA member, Julie Anderson, who received 2 awards in the San Diego Watercolor Society's November Cash Awards Show.  "Celebration" won Honorable Mention in the miniatures category, and "Breakfast" won Juror's Commendation in the regular category.  The show, juried by Margy West, runs from November 5 through November 28 at the SDWS Gallery, 2825 Dewey Rd, with Opening Reception on November 7.

Roberta Dyer is showing a mixed media painting titled "Talk to Me", 30"x22" at the San Diego Art Institute's Regional Juried Show through the month of July, 2014. Roberta won the People's Choice Award for the June Water Conservation show at the San Diego Watercolor Society with "Sheila", a giant orange frog in a 30" x 22" watercolor, and she won Best Theme for an acrylic/mixed media piece titled "Jongleur 2", 22 x 30 inch for the July SDWS show. Congratulations, Roberta! 

Anne Jackson's glass on glass mosaic "Mermaid" and "Ama the Mermaid" will be on display June 27 to Aug 2, 2014 at the new exhibition titled "Mermaid Sightings and the art of Antonio Proa" @ La Onda Arte Latino Gallery in NTC Liberty Station.

Congratulations to PLAA member Jane Riles as her new work "Spirited Away" was voted People's Choice at the Watercolor Society.  You can view this work other fine work by Jane in her gallery on this site.  

PLAA artists painting plein aire in 4 different gardens on the Point Loma Garden Walk, April 26, 2014.  Hannah Creighton, Joanne Newman, Julie Anderson, and Maureen Blackhall will be part of this 13th annual event presented by the Dana Unit of Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary.  This fundraiser provides continued support for the Craniofacial Services at Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego. 

San Diego Horticultural Society

PLAA member Anne Jackson is honored and delighted to have been selected to participate in the San Diego Horticultural Society Annual Spring Garden Tour, “Surf and Turf”, April 5, 2014. 9 am to 4 pm. 
Tour eight wonderfully diverse private gardens in Solana Beach -the surf-and Olivenhain -the turf. One of eight artists selected, Anne Jackson will be displaying and creating stained glass mosaics in the ‘Craftsman with a View’ home of Jack and Susie Burger. Last years attendance was over 1200 visitors. Anne Jackson has two of her unique stained glass mosaics on display at the Women’s Museum of California. The two on display are “Beach Girl” and “Firecracker”.

PLAA member, Julie Anderson is pleased to announce that her painting, "Opponent", has been juried into the first San Diego Watercolor Society exhibit at the Point Loma Credit Union, 3777 Sports Arena Blvd.  "Opponent" was previously juried into the 2013 National Watercolor Society Annual Member Show.  It was selected for the PLCU exhibit, along with 15 other paintings, from winners in the SDWS monthly member shows in 2012 and 2013.  The show runs until March 15, 2014.

Point Loma Artist Association member Cher Pendarvis is honored and delighted to have been featured in the California's Designing Women exhibition at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles in 2012-2013.

PLAA artists showing at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts, June 22nd and 23rd, 2013,
Our own Dave Ness and Greg Bowerman, will be showing their work at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts on June 22nd and 23rd at UCSD's Warren Field.  This is an excellent show with high quality artists, wonderful live bands and great food.  The setting is on the grass at Warren Field.  There is an admission charge and proceeds enable San Diegians with disabilities to play sports.  If you attend the Festival, look for Dave and Greg's booths.

Devora Safran has just completed three weeks of intense glass blowing instruction.  Devora continuously works on her skills with other artists, and if you've seen her work, it shows!

Small Image Show
Sally Ault, woodturner, and Lynn Render, potter, have pieces on display at the 37th annual Small Image Show at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village, Balboa Park.  The exhibit is open from 11-4pm January 25 - February 28, 2012. Reception is January 28, 4 -8 pm.

Member awarded third place from Gallery 4311 at the San Diego Hospice
Dave Ness was awarded a third place ribbon for his piece "Resting Giants" at the Gallery 4311 at the San Diego Hospice.  The showing was of roughly fifteen artists and hundreds of pieces for the months of September and October.

Beverly Brady Commission - May 2011
Beverly Brady has been commissioned to paint a patriotic portrait on an outside wall of Gus' on Rosecrans in Pt. Loma.  She plans to use real military people as models and represent all branches of military service.

Art Walk 2011
Several PLAA members participated as vendors in Little Italy's annual Art Walk sponsored by Mission Federal: Dave Ness, Greg Bowerman, Jane Riles

Pt. Loma Utility Box Project
Several PLAA members have responded to a request from the Pt. Loma Association to paint utility boxes that represent vital Pt. Loma organizations.  Georgia Hoopes is collaborating with the Kiwanis Club, Julie Anderson with Rotary, and Bev Brady with the Pt. Loma Assoc.  When the artwork is complete, we will announce the locations. 

Lynn Render wins award
At Gallery 21 in Balboa Park's Spanish Village Art Center, there is a Small Image Show from Jan. 28-Feb. 21.  Lynn's piece, which is called Green Carved Vase, was juried in to the show and has won 3rd place in the 12 inch category.  Congratulations, Lynn!  You can see a photo of Lynn's Green Carved Vase if you click on her name in the artist list. 

Lynn will be participating in the Empty Bowls project on May 7 to benefit  Third Avenue Charitable Organization  (T.A.C.O.) which aids the homeless and the elderly in San Diego.

San Diego Natural History Museum's Best of Nature Show
A photograph by PLAA member Pat Flanigan has been juried into this prestigious exhibit.  The exhibit will be at the museum from Nov. 13 - January 30, 2011.

The Painter's Perspective at Spanish Village, Balboa Park

The Painter's Perspective,a showcase of paintings by a group of artists who meet under the direction of Linda Doll, is currently on display in Gallery 21 in Balboa Park's Spanish Village.  The show includes paintings by Suzanne Stofer and Julie Anderson, which depict creative solutions to challenges given.  The exhibit runs from July 21 to August 7 from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

Art Gallery at Gary Gilmore Goldsmith Jewelry Store

Dave Ness
has been invited to display his work for sale on the walls of Gary Gilmore's well-known GOLDSMITH shop on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach.  As of July 2010, the Gilmores have made space for eighteen of Dave's gorgeous fine art landscape images.  Two sold the first day, and that's not surprising because this is a fabulous exhibit.

Belle Maison Seacoast Interiors

Paintings by Roberta Dyer and Julie Anderson are available for purchase at Belle Maison, 4896 Newport Avenue, Ocean Beach.  "When a client commissions a painting, Roberta Dyer is the artist I turn to," says Carolyn Stankaitis, creative director at Belle Maison. "I love her work."

San Diego Sculptors' Guild - September 2010

Bill Riley will be the Featured Artist at the San Diego Sculptors' Guild located at Studio of Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. A reception will take place Sunday, September 19, 5 - 8 pm.  This is a great opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy his work.  There will be refreshments too.

California Surf Museum

"Duke," a piece by sculptor Bill Riley, is on display at the California Surf Museum in Oceanside.

Surfindian Gallery

Bill Riley has two of his unique surf sculptures on display at the Surfindian Gallery in Pacific Beach.  The two on display are "Kahuna Paddle Out" and "Surf Indian."

Future Exhibit at San Diego Hospice and Institute of Palliative Medicine - Fall 2011

One of only six artists recently chosen for next year, Dave Ness will have a solo show of his fine art landscape photography during September and October 2011.  A percentage of the proceeds from sales goes to SDHIPM.

San Diego County Fair 2010

Pat Flanigan's
three entries were accepted for the fair's annual photography  exhibit.  Pat won a 2nd place ribbon and cash award in the Nature (color) category for a photo posted on this website.  It was taken in Africa and shows baboons being scared off by an elephant emerging from the bush.  Pat also won an honorable mention for a photo about present day tomato farming in Cuba.

San Diego Watercolor Society

On October 1, 2010, Roberta Dyer became President of this active organization of over 700 artists worldwide.  She took over from the previous President, PLAA member Julie Anderson

Besides offering juried art exhibits and workshops open to the public for children and adults, there is a monthly First Friday reception from 5 - 8 pm.  SDWC is located in the NTC Promenade in Pt. Loma's Liberty Station, open Wednesday - Sunday, 10 - 4.

Mission Federal Annual ArtWalk June 2010

Jane Riles and Dave Ness participated in the 2010 Mission Federal Art Walk in "Little Italy."  At least 120,000 people visited the two day event. 

"I shared a booth with some of my students and all of the work was very well received," commented Jane Riles.  Jane is an experienced painter and teacher who has won many awards and exhibited her work in countless shows, including a solo exhibition at the San Diego Art Institute.

"My booth was packed and much of the time people were standing outside waiting to get in," says Dave Ness, a fine art landscape photographer.   He displayed most of his images printed on canvas and stretched "gallery wrap" style - ready for immediate hanging. 

Small Image Show at Gallery 21 - June 2010

Three PLAA members were juried into this show at Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park.  Lorraine Klotz, Bill Riley and Lynn Render have their work on display.  Gallery 21 is open seven days a week from 11 am - 4 pm.

I'm looking for information on a drawing that has a sticker with the address 2169 Chatseorth Blvd San Diego. It was done by an Artist by the name of Gladys Brown. It's a drawing of PRINZ ERIK of Willowrun. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you James E
